Never Give Up
It was just over a year ago when I created Dry Creek Press in order to write and publish a new inspirational series of books called THE BEST OF US, and my original goal was to have the first book, THE BEST OF US, 50 Inspirational Everyday People Who Are Making The World A Better Place published by fall of 2005. Then THE BEST OF US in Business, THE BEST OF US in Medicine, and 20 other THE BEST OF US books on Parenting, Teachers, Government and others would follow at the rate of 2 books or more a year. A ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul type series.
Starting and funding a fledgling book publishing company as a one man operation was a bit more difficult than I anticipated, and I’ve had to make some adjustments and rescheduling of my timelines. I’m learning as I go, and despite being a published author with a broad area of expertise in publishing, i.e., newspapers, periodicals, TV production, and advertising, there have been times I’ve been discouraged, depressed, frustrated and even suffered writer’s block a few times.
But through it all, 3 words kept reverberating through my head…’NEVER GIVE UP’!
My mom and dad ingrained those words into me as a child growing up, and the 35 years I’ve spent reporting positive stories have reinforced the basic truth that those who succeed, those who excel, those who triumph despite great odds, all have that common thread..they never, ever, gave up!
The 50 Inspiring Everyday People in my first The Best of Us book are also people who never quit, and their inspiration guides my own efforts as well.
Well, I’m not giving up either! Not now, not ever! My new launch date for The Best of Us will be the fall of 06..a few short months from now!
Last night on the 4th of July, I was watching a PBS broadcast of the celebration at our nation’s capitol, and Michael Bolton sang a Frank Sinatra Song that is one of my favorites, and for those of you not familiar with the lyrics, I’m going to give them to you with the hope that they will inspire you as they do me, and that they will remind you that life has its ups and downs for all of us, but as the song says..’That’s Life’!. These lyrics describe more about who I am than anything I can describe myself.

That's Life
------Frank Sinatra
That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.
I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
That's life
I tell ya, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, My
